Lincolnshire turkey “champion” Sally Hawkins was presented with the Anglian Turkey Association’s prestigious Goodchild Trophy during the body’s recent annual banquet and show.
Awarded the trophy in recognition of her contribution to the sector, Mrs Hawkins (pictured above) was applauded by the gathering for her work over more than three decades, during which she has been involved in the Traditional Farm Fresh business, both as a hatching egg and poult supplier, and as a producer of turkeys for the Christmas market.
She also undertook the task of judging the Association’s traditional show, telling an audience of around 130 fellow farmers that the care and preparation taken by exhibitors had resulted in an “excellent shop window for the quality of the traditional Farm Fresh turkey”.
Top awards were as follows:
- Best In Show – Cottage Farms, based near Sevenoaks, Kent.
- Marriage Cup for medium-sized hens – Blackwell’s Farm Produce of Coggeshall, Essex.
Other winners included:
- Ian Wylie from Cambridgeshire,
- Philip Hunter from Suffolk and
- William Weeks from Essex.
The ATA will hold its traditional “Post Mortem” event, looking back on the festive trade, at 8pm on January 10, 2017, at Prested Hall, near Colchester.
