Aviagen has responded to continued demand for its products by adding a brand-new facility to its UK hatchery portfolio. The new high-generation hatchery is located at Rugby in Warwickshire, and will commence operation early 2019. Jonathan Lester, Head of GGP Operations, Aviagen, said: “The new Rugby hatchery gives us the capacity to respond to increasing demand and helps to future-proof our operations as requirements for our products continue to grow.”
The addition of the Rugby hatchery brings the total of UK-wide Aviagen hatcheries to three. With a setting capacity of 180,000 eggs/week, the hatchery is built to the latest design specifications and incorporates state-of-the-art equipment to operate under the most exacting welfare and biosecurity conditions.
Aviagen chose to work with EmTech Hatchery Systems for the design and installation of the Rugby facility.
“The hatchery has been designed and equipped with quality in mind,” said Magnus Swalander, general manager, Aviagen. “This latest project underpins Aviagen’s strategy of investing in our facilities and infrastructure. With the new Rugby operation added to our UK hatchery portfolio, we can ensure the safe, continuous supply of Aviagen chicks from prime British locations that are strategically placed for export to international customers as well as for deliveries to the domestic market.”
