The UK’s largest egg firm has announced it will stop sourcing eggs from caged hens by 2025, a move that puts it in line with the existing commitments of most of the UK’s major retailers.
The announcement follows criticism of Noble Foods by an animal rights group that filmed caged hens on one of the farms that supplies the firm in allegedly poor conditions.
In a statement, Noble Foods, which owns the Happy Egg Company brand and Gu desserts, said in a statement it was making a group-wide commitment to supplying cage-free eggs by 2025. “This announcement comes as the culmination of months of planning to achieve the realities of moving to solely cage-free production. Noble has been working closely with its retail partners and the farming community to ensure a smooth transition.”
