The UK is preparing to declare free of avian influenza (AI) by the end of July, if as expected all remaining infected premises are signed off in the coming days.
In order to declare freedom from AI, a country must show there have been no cases of the disease within 28 days of cleaning & disinfection on infected premises.
APHA currently considers the UK is at low risk for wild bird incursion.
While there have been no new cases of AI in the UK, there have been several reports of outbreaks in both domestic poultry and wild birds throughout other European countries, including Albania, Germany, Estonia, Sweden and Belgium.
