A new Omega 3 supplement has been launched, that is suitable for use with laying hens.
Omega 3 is traditionally sourced from fish oil, but the new supplement, from British manufacturer UFAC-UK is derived from algae.
“The new algi40 Omega 3 supplement is a traceable, sustainable, high-quality alternative to fish-oil sourced Omega 3s,” said UFAC-UK national sales manager, David Turnbull.
The product is designed to enhance dietary intake of these essential fatty acids in livestock, the company said.
This promotes animal well-being, while helping to promote growth, production, health and reproduction. Critically, these long-chain poly Omega 3 fatty acids also bring significant benefits to human health and well-being.
Omega 3s in layer poultry diets not only bring significant health and reproductive advantages to the hens, but crucially, this translates directly from the hens to their eggs, bringing benefits to the consumer, the company said.
