Inspections of Lion registered farms and egg packing centres have been stopped. The assurance scheme said it had been keeping the position of Lion Code audits under review on a daily basis, however, with the new advice from government on the continuing coronavirus situation, Lion registered sites will no longer have physical audits, with immediate effect.
Previously the assurance scheme had considered liaising with APHA in terms to see whether its staff could carry out inspections on farms and in packing centres.
A spokesperson for Lion said: “NSF Agriculture are currently working on a protocol for remote assessments and further details of what this will look like will be circulated in the coming days. This could also include the assessor asking the site to provide coverage via a smart phone or similar.”
