Europe’s animal feed industry organisation, FEFAC, has reached agreement on its “2030 Vision” with a strong commitment to feed safety, animal nutrition and sustainability.
The new document was signed off by delegates during last week’s FEFAC council meeting in Turkey and will be published in its entirety during the first FEFAC/FEFANA joint conference Innovation in Animal Nutrition which is due to take place in Brussels on June 9, 2016.
It’s already known, however, that the vision outlines the role of the feed industry as a “knowledge-driven, reliable partner to a sustainable, competitive EU livestock sector”.
As such, FEFAC is already calling on EU policy makers to adapt the necessary regulatory framework to allow the feed and food chain to boost innovation efforts in order to tackle societal challenges, while also addressing the growing demand for food-feed safety and animal health & welfare.
The FEFAC council meeting also saw the re-election of Ruud Tijssens as the organisation’s president, working with praesidium members Anton Einberger (Germany), Cristina de Sousa (Portugal), Tony Bell (AIC, UK), Witold Obidzinski (Poland) and Jesper Pagh (Denmark).
FEFAC, the European Compound Feed Manufacturers’ Federation, represents 25 national associations in 24 EU member states as well as associations in Switzerland, Turkey, Serbia, Russia and Norway.
FEFANA, the EU Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and their Mixtures, is the voice of the specialty feed ingredients business in Europe. Membership comprises manufacturers and traders of feed additives, functional feed ingredients, premixes and other mixtures of specialty ingredients that enter the food chain via feed.
