Devenish has launched a new oregano feed supplement in the European market. OregoPro is a high-concentration oregano product which Devenish said improved intestinal health and nutrient absorption. Oregano has proven anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, which is particularly relevant during periods of stress.
In trials by Devenish, layers given the product showed improvements in egg production and quality, eggshell thickness and feed conversion, the company said. In broilers, research showed improved feed conversion and lesion scores. The product has been sold commercially in the US market for over two years.
Dr Bronagh Owens, poultry sector director at Devenish, said: “Oregano has long been known to support bird gut health and intestinal integrity, in turn supporting better animal performance. With a high concentration of oregano essential oil of 20%, our studies have demonstrated OregoPro is outperforming competitor products on the market.”
