Two poultry-based research projects are included in a new £826,000 release of funding by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).
Part of a European animal health and welfare programme, the new poultry projects will be carried out at the universities of Oxford and Bristol.
The Oxford work will involve a validation of the automated welfare assessment of poultry under the leadership for Professor Marian Dawkins.
The Bristol project will be headed by Dr Andrew Butterworth and will involve an advanced study of integrated broiler data.
The two poultry projects share in a three-way division of the BBSRC funding alongside research in relation to the control of arboviral diseases, which will be based at the Pirbright Institute.
