Five cases of avian influenza (AI) have been confirmed in the UK since 1 October in commercial poultry, three in England and two in Scotland.
The spread of the disease this autumn has been significantly reduced compared to last autumn and winter, when over 100 outbreaks were confirmed in October alone.
No cases in Northern Ireland or Wales have been discovered this season so far.
The most recent two cases were in England. Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed in commercial poultry on 29 November 2023 at a premises near Cranbrook, East Devon, Devon. A 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone have been declared around the premises.
