Norfolk poultry integrator Banham Poultry is being investigated by the Environment Agency over ongoing odour issues from its processing plant in Attleborough.
An Environment Agency spokesperson said: “There is an active criminal investigation taking place regarding activities at the site at Station Road. Therefore, the information we are able to provide at this time is limited to ensure the ongoing investigation is not prejudiced.”
The company has undertaken numerous measures to try and curb the problem. In a recent report from the Environment Agency, issued to Breckland Council, the company outlined the actions it had taken in the past two years, when it was bought by Chesterfield Poultry.
This includes improved ventilation through air scrubbers, and the installation of a chilled blood tank.
The company said the investment would significantly improve the odour profile of the site and reduce the opportunity for emissions from the site to impact the amenity of the locality.
