Gressingham Foods’ is celebrating the success of one of its young recruits who has progressed from farm hand to qualified HGV driver.
After Gressingham announced its HGV Academy training scheme earlier this year, 19-year-old, Harvey Morgans, saw his chance to follow in his father’s footsteps, as a driver for the company and applied for the opportunity.
“Harvey’s enthusiasm, confidence and determination shined through during his interview. I was amazed at how professional and determined he presented himself at such a young age and I knew he was going to be perfect for an HGV apprentice role,” said Sarah Mayordomo Fernandez, transport manager, compliance and commercial at Gressingham Foods.
Harvey started his training in March 2024, studying alongside his employment at Elmswell Farm in Suffolk, and passed the two written exams and practical driving course ‘with flying colours’. Within four months of starting the scheme, Morgans passed his final HGV driving test with the DVSA.
“We feel proud to offer extensive apprenticeships across the company, including in butchery, poultry, warehouse and as process operators in the factory, monitoring quality and stock control,” said Rebecca Alderton, marketing and communications manager at Gressingham Foods.
Morgans will be joining the team of ‘live bird’ drivers that are based at Redgrave’s operating centre, working alongside an experienced team to learn how to safely transport the birds.
“I am very proud of Harvey’s hard work, dedication and achievements and I am very happy to welcome him as a member of our great team of HGV drivers at Gressingham,” said Mayordomo Fernandez.
