The US poultry industry has achieved an 81% reduction in workplace illnesses and injuries in the last 20 years according to a broadly-based grouping of US industry organisations.
“We are proud of what we have accomplished, but we are not at all complacent with that number,” said USPOULTRY’s executive vice president of industry programmes, Paul Pressley, adding that the poultry industry was constantly looking for ways to prevent injuries in the workplace.
Mr Pressley’s comments were included in a promotional release to highlight the US industry’s national safety conference which is due to be held in Florida from August 15-17.
The conference, which comes after a period of high profile public media reports concerning worker issues in the US, is backed by the Georgia Tech Research Institute/ATRP, Georgia Poultry Federation, National Chicken Council, National Turkey Federation and the US Poultry & Egg Association.
