Poultry breeding visionary, Dr Gendalal Jain, who retired this month, has been recognised by Cobb-Vantress for his work in developing a specific breeding programme for the industry in India.
Having completed 35 years at the company’s research farm in Pune, Dr Jain’s career achievements drew special mention from Cobb’s general manager in the Asia-Pacific region, Pelayo Casanovas, who praised his “outstanding work” in developing the Cobb 100, 400 and 430, and retaining the company’s major market share for several consecutive years in India.
“The key decision that Dr Jain made was to develop a specific breeding programme in India,” said Mr Casanovas. “He had to convince the geneticists at Cobb that selecting in that environment would be beneficial and time has proved him right.”
