A new three-part webinar series called ‘Let’s Talk Layers’ is being produced by Elanco Animal Health to help producers prepare for the industry challenges that are being thrown at them now and in the future.
Producers and vets are being invited to join the webinar series where industry experts will be talking about topics all linked to food safety.
“It’s important for us to support egg producers from every angle in order to help them run a sustainable business, maintain a high standard of animal welfare and provide the consumer with a safe end product,” said Jeremy Marsh, Elanco poultry strategic account manager.
Let’s Talk Biosecurity
The first webinar will be held on 15 March with a focus on biosecurity. Eduardo de Souza Pinto, president of operations at Hy-Line International, will start by talking about biosecurity as an investment, rather than a cost.
A biosecurity industry expert, de Souza Pinto, will then go on to talk about how to identify success factors and maintain the highest possible standard of biosecurity.
Let’s Talk Cage-free Production
The second session on 19 May will feature two industry experts. Andrew Joret, chairman of the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC), will share how consumer perceptions are changing and what the drivers are behind the move to cage-fee production.
Dr. Déborah Temple from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona is a vet and research scientist who studies the behaviour and welfare of farm animals. She will share her experience of the challenges to expect moving to a cage-free system, and how organic production may offer advantages.
Let’s Talk Branding
The series will conclude on 27 October with Mark Williams, chief executive and secretary of the BEIC. Williams will discuss how producers can differentiate their brand and sustain this over time. Drawing on his experience, he will also talk about the UK Lion Code for eggs and how it gained global recognition.
