Moy Park has decided not to close its Ashbourne plant in Derbyshire following a consultation on its future. The firm said it was repositioning the site as a business-to-business supplier, but will downsize operations.
Back in September, Moy Park proposed closing the processing facility, hatchery and logistics operation in Ashbourne and moving from a four-factory processing model to a three-factory model. But now it has said that while the facility will be downsized to focus solely on primary processing, 175 jobs will be saved as a result of the repositioning.
A spokesperson at Moy Park said: “We are able to reshape our Ashbourne facility to be a business-to-business supplier, saving the site from closure. While the site will be downsized, 175 jobs will be saved as a result of this repositioning.
“This move will ensure we have a strong security of supply for future opportunities and provides contingency options.
“We are supporting the employees at the site and in our supply chain who have been impacted by the restructuring of the factory.”
