Bernard Matthews has reported an annual loss before taxation of £10.2 million on turnover of £284.9 million during the year ending 1 January 2023.
The poultry firm recorded a bigger loss the year before, when the pre-tax loss was £25 million on sales of £270.8 million.
Over the year, the number of staff decreased from 2,142 to 1,843 and the wage bill also went down from £55.9 million to £48.7 million.
The directors said the year’s operational results had significantly improved compared to the previous year, primarily due to improved gross profit margin and efficiencies found in the cost base.
Bernard Matthews was acquired in 2017 by Amber REI Holdings, which is owned by Ranjit Boparan, owner of 2 Sisters Food Group.
