Faccenda has provided a quarter of a million meals worth of chicken to food charity FareShare.
Faccenda and FareShare celebrated the second anniversary of their partnership this week, which sees the poultry company donate one tonne of chicken every week from their Telford site to the charity’s West Midlands regional centre. This in turn provides over 2,000 meals a week for vulnerable people living in the region.
The chicken is redistributed by FareShare to over 100 frontline charities and community groups throughout the West Midlands, including homeless shelters, lunch clubs for older people at risk of social isolation and community centres in deprived areas.
Receiving a regular delivery of chicken enables these charities to provide a valuable source of protein for their beneficiaries, many of whom are malnourished or otherwise unable to access fresh meat.
The regularity of Faccenda’s donations also means that FareShare’s charity members can plan their meals around a reliable supply of fresh protein.
Andy Dawkins, Managing Director of Faccenda said: “Working with FareShare has really made us think again about the value of the food we produce and the power it has to improve the lives of people in need. We’re all incredibly proud to support FareShare and the fantastic work they do, and look forward to continuing this for a long time to come.”
Mandy Hawkes, Business Development Manager at FareShare West Midlands said: “There are literally thousands of people in food poverty in the West Midlands so charities and community groups providing food are an essential frontline service. A regular supply of fresh chicken to local charities makes such a difference to the range of hot meals they can make. Our community food members regularly thank us for the chicken and tell us how nutritious hot food makes such a difference to those people who would otherwise not eat at all. “
