New research awards in global agriculture and food systems, led by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), are to be announced early in 2017 as part of a UK-led initiative which will see 39 British research organisations working in partnership with up to 32 different countries around the world.
The UK commitment involves the allocation of over £20m to 41 short-term projects, all designed to target new, innovative and multidisciplinary research that will meet the existing or future health needs of the countries involved, including in relation to agriculture and food.
Five UK research councils are involved in programme, namely MRC, AHRC, BBSRC, ESRC and NERC, with the principal objective of strengthening UK research partnerships in low and middle income countries in order to “champion world-class research”.
