The leading Nordic chicken-based food products company, Scandi Standard, has acquired a majority shareholding in the Danish organic poultry processor, Sødams Øko Fjerkræslagteri.
The acquisition, which was channelled through Scandi Standard’s subsidiary Danpo, was described by the company as following its strategy of broadening its product portfolio in Denmark. Established in 2009, Sødams Øko Fjerkræslagteri processes approximately 500,000 organic and free-range chicken with annual sales of around DKK 18 million (£2m).
Scandi Standard’s declared vision is to “inspire” Nordic consumers to eat chicken once more per week than they do at present with a key part of its strategy to achieve this being based on offering more premium products, such as organic and free-range chicken.
Scandi Standard already holds leading positions in Sweden, Denmark and Norway, producing and marketing chilled and frozen products under the brands Kronfågel, Danpo, Den Stolte Hane, Vestfold Fugl, Ivars, and Chicky World, as well as for private labels.
The company also packs and sells eggs in Norway under the brand Den Stolte Hane and for private labels.
