An investigation of the “completed acquisition” of the Bernard Matthews Ltd. business by Ranjit Boparan and Baljinder Boparan has been started by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
The CMA, as part of an “initial enforcement order” relating to the investigation stated that it is “considering whether it is or may be the case that a relevant merger situation has been created and whether the creation of that situation has resulted or may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition in any market or markets in the United Kingdom (UK)”.
The launch of the investigation comes just over three weeks after Boparan Private Office announced it had bought the Bernard Matthews poultry business with the promise that it would “respect and build on the 66-year heritage of a much-loved British brand”.
Boparan Private Office is a private investment company owned by Ranjit Singh, who also owns the 2 Sisters Food Group.
