Oakland Farm Eggs, whose operations comprise pullet rearing, egg production, and egg packing, has reported strong financial results in the year ending 31 March 2024.
The business, run by four members of the Griffiths family, reported sales during the period up 31.8% to £115.87 million. The report states this increase was not surprising, given a change in strategic focus which included a change in the customers the business supplied, an increase in the price charged, and a shift in production from colony cage egg to barn, which commands a higher price.
Profits also increased during the year, amounting to £10.42 million, up from £2.58 million the previous year.
In January 2025, the company suffered an outbreak of avian influenza which led to the cull of 1.4 million birds. The company’s report makes reference to this post balance sheet event, and says the financial impact on the company is as yet unknown. However it notes that government compensation was paid for the birds and that although profitability will be affected, the company is well placed to continue trading profitably into the future.
