Food processing company Associated British Foods (ABF) has committed to sourcing only cage-free eggs and egg ingredients globally. The company operates in 53 countries across the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia, including China, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and several other Asian markets.
ABF operates in multiple markets, from food products to animal feed and owns brands including Patak’s, Kingsmill, Jordans, Tip Top, Yumi’s and Mazola. “At ABF, we believe in the importance of high animal health and welfare standards,” the company said in its responsible sourcing ESG Insight. “Our grocery businesses, based in the UK, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and our ingredient business excluding Brazil have all committed to sourcing 100% cage-free eggs by 2025. With Brazil’s cage-free egg industry still in its infancy availability is challenging, so considering this, our Ingredient business has made a commitment to sourcing 100% cage-free eggs by 2028.”
ABF has joined a growing number of food businesses that have made commitments to source only cage-free eggs across their global supply chains, including packaged food manufacturers such as Bakkavor, Unilever, Danone, Nestle, Kraft and Mondelez, retailers such as Tesco, Costco, METRO and Aldi, and foodservice companies such as Aramark, Compass Group and Sodexo.
