Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed on 21 August 2022 in commercial poultry at a premises near Gayton, King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, Norfolk. A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone were put in place around the premises. All poultry on the premises will be humanely culled.
The new cases were confirmed after Defra last week ended the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) for poultry and captive birds.
The enhanced biosecurity measures were brought in across Great Britain in November when there was a medium risk for some poultry premises. The government said the risk of avian influenza has now reduced to low for all poultry.
The UK has faced its largest ever outbreak of bird flu with over 130 cases confirmed across the country since late October 2021.
