Avian influenza is continuing to be discovered in poultry and other birds throughout the UK, with 121 infected premises recorded in Great Britain by the Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA), since the first case of the season last October.
According to APHA, in the last two weeks of July, highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed at two
further commercial premises in England: one in Devon and another in Bedfordshire.
Of the 121 infected premises (IPs) in total, 105 have occurred in England, 11 have occurred in Scotland (including the Scottish Islands), and five in Wales. The avian influenza protection zone, which requires personnel working with poultry and hobbyists to take additional biosecurity measures, remains in place in England, Wales and Scotland.
The World Organisation for Animal Health reported further IPs with HPAI H5N1 in domestic poultry in France, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands throughout July.
