On 21 February, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1) was confirmed at a premises near Newtown, Montgomeryshire, Powys. A 3km Protection Zone,10km Surveillance Zone and 10km Restricted Zone have been put in place around the infected premises.
It is the fifth confirmed case in Wales during the current winter season. It brings the total number of cases throughout GB to 79, the worst outbreak of avian flu in Britain ever recorded.
Since November it has been mandatory for all poultry keepers to house their birds.
