A new probiotic for chicken is being launched in effervescent tablet form. Ecobiol Fizz has been developed by Evonik Animal Nutrition and contains a microbial strain of the species Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, which is used to stabilise the intestinal microbiota of broilers and chicken reared for laying, especially during stressful periods. It is administered via the animals’ water supply.
“Probiotics have proven to be a good alternative to the use of growth-promoting antibiotics in the barn,” said Torben Madsen, head of the Sustainable Healthy Nutrition product line at Evonik’s Animal Nutrition.
The company said the advantage of an effervescent tablet is that bacterial spores are distributed homogeneously in water without stirring. One effervescent tablet is sufficient for 1,000 litres of water.
