The Scottish Poultry and Egg industry has lost a colleague and friend with the passing of Dennis Surgenor MBE.
Dennis started his poultry career as poultry feed salesman for Silcox. He then progressed to be the Poultry Specialist with SAI (Scottish Agricultural Industry) at a time when SAI practically fed most of the laying birds in Scotland.
Sir John Campbell of Glenrath Farms said Dennis was “the backbone of a very successful Scottish egg industry.”
Dennis also took part in a humanitarian mission to Bosnia when he was 70, embarking on helping Bosnian widows set up laying units and how to market eggs.
Dennis was awarded a Nuffield Scholarship, and an MBE from the Queen in 1992 for his services to the Scottish and UK Egg Industry.
