The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has begun a consultation on the authorisation of the use of alternative systems for the disinfection of cutting tools in abattoirs and game handling establishments.
The agency is inviting views from slaughterhouses, cutting plants, approved game handling establishments, Food Business Operators (FBO), local authorities and service delivery partners.
Current legislation demands that abattoirs and cutting plants have facilities for disinfecting tools with hot water of no less than 82 degrees centigrade or an alternative system having equivalent effect.
The consultation is seeking views on what those alternative systems are and whether they should be authorised.
Comments and views should be sent to Raj Pal at raj.pal@food.gov.uk or 0207 276 8083 by 12 January.
