A fire on a poultry farm in Carlisle has ripped through sheds killing 16,000 chickens.
According to reports, six fire crews were called to the scene to tackle the fire. The fire was contained in time to save another shed containing a further 16,000 birds.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service group manager Craig Drinkald told the Carlisle News & Star the fire was in a building measuring 70 metres by 30 metres which was housing around 16,000 chickens.
“The cause of the fire is now under investigation but there is nothing to suggest it was untoward,” he said.
