Research proposals for an antimicrobial industrial hygiene monitoring study are being sought by the US Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY), to be funded through the organisation’s Board Research Initiative (BRI).
“Antimicrobials are often used in meat and poultry processing to control pathogens in raw meat products,” said USPOULTRY, adding that many companies have conducted studies that clearly demonstrate the exposure of employees to these antimicrobial substances is well below levels of concern from an industrial hygiene perspective.
“However, there is a dearth of publicly available, peer-reviewed studies on the topic, and BRI is designed to fill that void.
“The proposed study will also highlight practices or procedures found during the programme that further reduce exposure levels.”
The deadline for pre-proposal submissions is November 1.
USPOULTRY has invested the equivalent of more than £20 million in the industry in the form of research grants, with over 50 US universities and federal and state facilities being funded for key project over the years.
