The new president of the British Veterinary Association (BVA) is small animal veterinary surgeon, Gudrun Ravetz.
Taking over from Sean Wensley as head of the association, she named her priorities for the year ahead as Brexit, AMR, dog health and welfare, and workforce issues.
“Vets play a key role in society and their scientific and caring roles add value to human and animal lives at every level,” she said.
Growing up in North West England, Ms Gudrun (pictured above) graduated from the University of Liverpool Veterinary School in 2002. Now living in Cumbria, she is an external interviewer for prospective veterinary students at the University of Liverpool and Chief Veterinary officer for Denplan Pet Health Plans.
Ms Gudrun is the fourth women to become BVA president, heading an organisation where women now make up 60% of the veterinary workforce with an even greater 80-20 female/male split taking place in the current numbers of veterinary graduates.
