The latest consumer tracker results from the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB) include a mix of good and not so good news for the poultry sector.
On the positive front, poultry emerges as a winner with consumers in terms of its “practicality” as an easy to prepare product.
At the same time, poultry is described as “falling down” when it comes to flavour.
According to AHDB, only 35% of survey respondents considered poultry to be “full of flavour” while beef and lamb achieved the significantly higher flavour scores of 52% and 46% respectively.
The tracker report also reveals, however, that consumers are much less likely to agree that beef, lamb or pork is “good for you” compared to fish and poultry, partly due to negative media coverage which “can influence” consumers’ perceptions.
